[ She knows why he isn't— John is trapped and suffering and stuck. It also doesn't help she didn't humor him, indulge in telling him the sweeter things of her days here (which would all be lies, because the only sweet thing she's done is cut tail holes in some pants). ]

[ Felipe laughs like it'd been said as a joke even though it definitely wasn't. he's got no reason to hide what John told him, but he doesn't want to make it sound like an actual fight either. that just raises too many questions he doesn't feel like answering right now. ]

[ Deliberately light, and not necessarily cheeky in the way it'd usually be when Lottie is goading for information (because she is, because she thinks she knows why John called him that— there's no way he'd do it unprompted, after all!). ]

[ A moment or two of pause, because she's not surprised (it's her ego talking here). A lot of people probably have super weird and unrealistic crushes on her or something! But also a lot of them aren't Felipe, who has already had the advantage of eating her out. Of talking to her, personally. ]

[ Among other things, she wants to say. But that'd just worry him, and that's not what she wants. She's thinking she wants him to wax poetic about her. Give a nice distraction from the vaguely dejected way she feels from how it all went. ]

[ And despite her intentions, she means it when she says it. Doesn't mind letting some of the warm pink fuzzy goodness she feels as she reminisces about what they did bleed through (because all of his weird has been wringed out, smoothed over for the pleasant experience it was: Lottie having to do nothing but be catered to by big strong Felipe). ]

[ on his part the connection feels more intense, but not quite fully representative of his sudden obsession with her. just warm and wanting. ]

Maybe it's like in that story you told me. The comedy? Where the man falls for the friend he's trying to help?

[ he's cast himself as what he thinks it's the lead, the man, not knowing that in romantic comedies the main character is usually a woman. ]

[ She ignores the sheer volume of it because in the end, the confirmation of how much he wants her makes her feel better about how she royally fucked up talking to John. ]

that's more romantic than comedy

[ Also, she'd be the protagonist, but it was so long ago they even talked about this.. She's lucky (happy?) he even remembered that when even she forgot. ]
