A shortcut right into the deepest pits of the Void made the stay shorter, but I don't think the trip was any better than last time. You?

Wasn't my choice to go out there. They forced our hands this time.

Yeah. I got there through some guy's eyes. Still not sure how that happened.

Do you think it was the Duchess' doing? The portals?

Don't know, didn't see em. I got the hell outta town when the cages went up.

[ He'd tried to get Jesse and others to safety. None of that had exactly worked. ]

Yeah? How'd she do it?

[ He doesn't understand a thing about what she does, other than the mindreading. It wasn't until she'd stopped the guy from attacking Daryl with just a touch that he'd been forced to wonder if she couldn't also put thoughts into people's heads. It's a chilling thing to consider. ]

She told one of the townspeople to let her out.

And he did. Just like that.

[ She hadn't gone into detail when she'd told him but yeah, that was pretty much what he'd been imagining after what he'd seen her do - grabbing that guy and convincing him to just let Daryl walk away from the cages when he'd come to rescue her.

It's enough to make him shiver at the strangeness. He'd never seen anything like it. ]

You ever seen her do something like that before?

It felt wrong.

She ever used it on you?

No. Why would she use it on me?

[ she only learned it to use on him, apparently. uhh. ]

Because she could if she wanted to.

[ And she hasn't. To hold back a power like that in a place like this is something to be admired, as far as Daryl understands it. ]

And didn't you help a guy kidnap her? She could have used it then.

She hasn't been able to do it before. I don't think so. She would have used it.

What I'm saying is be careful around her.

[dadyl]

[ Be careful around her? Something in Daryl bristles, defensive. She's never done anything to hurt him. Would never. ]

The only one I'm worried about is the guy who was ready to kill her.

[ The one she'd just... given herself up to. Daryl will never understand it. ]

I trust her. [ As much as he can. ] Not him.

It could be his doing. I don't know what's happening. She's not talking to me.

She got upset when I told her she should stay away from that guy.

Yeah. She screamed at me when I told her the same.

She's gotta make her own mistakes. Or she'll end up hating us instead of him.
